Hello,

The argument that text was already in the previous version of the
specification, which is a RFC, has been raised previously.

The points that can be made are:

  (a) Is the specification impossible to implement due to technical or clarity
      issues?

  (b) Does the proposal have technical flaws?

  (c) Does it conform to IAB architecture?

  (d) Does it have broken ABNF, XML, etc?

The question is whether it is worth reviewing a -bis draft when
issues will be addressed by "already in RFC" [1]. Feedback about
this is welcome.

Thanks,
-sm

... the only clean solution I can imagine when there are such isses in an
already published and deployed work is not the review of an updated
document... but a discussion (see SM's points below) is it is worth to
witdraw ("deprecate") the existing document and start a completely new
(and fixed) specification.

But "deprecating" a document is not in the AppsDir scope, even if we can
make helpful comments.

I would not make the review, and in case suggest that there are major
issues we see in the already existing document, thus we suggest the ADs
and the IESG some thinking about it.

Hello,

I would like to congratulate Claudio Allocchio,=20
the new Applications Area Directorate Team=20
Lead. Claudio has been on the directorate since=20
a few years. He performed the most difficult=20
AppsDir review. In my opinion it is in the=20
interest of the directorate to have a new team=20
lead who can bring in new ideas and ensure continuity.

I would like to thank Barry and Pete for their=20
support. I'll add a special thanks to Alexey and=20
Peter who have both been a tremendous help in=20
getting the directorate started and making it work.

I got to appreciate the finer qualities of each=20
member of the directorate over the last few=20
years. I am indebted to the following persons=20
for volunteering their time and effort as members of the directorate:

   Carsten Bormann
   Tim Bray
   Eric Burger
   Dave Cridland
   Dave Crocker
   Martin D=FCrst
   Tobias Gondrom

Hi Henry,

Thanks for the review. I apologize for the delay in responding to your ema=
il.

I can't update the draft to address your concerns, but I'll work with Brian=
to ensure that the changes happen.

Oh. That's a bigger issue than you make out. Baseline !=3D reference.

Imagine if locations were boxes. A baseline location is a big box. A refe=
rence location is a small box inside the big box. A relative location is a=
nother small box inside the big box. To people that don't know this refere=
nce/relative stuff, they just see the big box.

I think that Brian and I will have to sit down and make some edits. Your f=
eedback will make that easier.

"SHOULD" is a weasel-word that SHOULD be avoided. I like to reserve SHOULD=
for cases where I am not providing a clear description of the exception ca=
ses. Most times, MUST works perfectly well if properly qualified. As I be=
lieve this is.

Yes, that does need to go. We aren't pursuing that particular solution any=
more. Those elements can just be eliminated.

Please accept my apologies. These are all indirectly referenced, but we ca=

I'm going to hold the line on this point. XML Schema defines two ways to d=
o the same thing and this draft consistently uses the form that permits oth=
er uses than complex type restrictions of the ur-type. I see no good reaso=
n to switch to the syntactic sugar variant.

I suggest having AppsDir review drafts in "Publication Requested" state.

There may be a slight increase in the number of reviews. It has
occasionally been mentioned that some drafts in "Publication
Requested" state are not ready for external review. I suggest
discussing the case with the Apps ADs if it arises.

in WG Last Call there is still a quite high chance that the document will
be revised by the WG itself, thus I agree with SM: at least "Publication
Request" state.

We might introduce in the process the idea that when we detect a document
in Publication Request state, we first confirm with the WG chair(s) that
it is ready for review, and default for no answer (!?!!) is "go ahead".

Hi Claudio,

I removed Jari to decrease his mail traffic.

At 12:55 10-05-2013, Claudio Allocchio wrote:

You still have the "review requested" option during WG Last Call
where the WG Chairs or AD can ask for an early review. AD requests
are given priority.  You can make the call for WG Chair requests;
i.e. look at reviewer workload, the document looks ready for review,
the WG Chair needs some help.

I read "Publication Request" state as "WG Chair thinks that the draft
is ready for review". You could send a message and follow up on it
if the draft seems problematic [1].

Hello all,

together with the ADs, we identified the following 2 documents for an
AppsDir review:

- draft-ietf-softwire-public-4over6-09

- draft-ietf-cuss-sip-uui-10

is there any volunteer to pick up the review task first, before I make
explicit assingment proposals?

Let me know ASAP !

thanks!

Hello all,

all documents are on IESG telechat next week, thus due date is short
(sorry about this, during the takeover period!);

we need reviews back by EOB May 28th.

- draft-ietf-cuss-sip-uui-10
Peter Saint-Andre will do it, thanks Peter!

- draft-ietf-softwire-public-4over6-09
assigned to Carsten Bormann, please ACK!

After a further check with the ADs we discovered that we also have 2 NFS
related documents which are on the same telechat but which were not
reviewd (or not completely reviewd) before:

- draft-ietf-nfsv4-rfc3530bis-26

- draft-ietf-nfsv4-rfc3530bis-dot-x-17

... apparently we should look for some NFS expert in out team, we have
none.

draft-ietf-nfsv4-rfc3530bis-26 is a long specification (only section 12 -
internationalization - was already revised), thus it's going to be a hard
task (also because of short time left). Any quick volunteer at least for a
quick review of these NFS drafts?

Hi Claudio,

[Cc to appsdir as it is easier]

I would like to request an AppsDir review of
draft-ietf-appsawg-rfc5451bis-04. The WGLC has ended and the
document is stable.

Best regards,
-sm
