This document proposes a multicast address allocation architecture
for the Internet. The architecture is modular with three layers,
comprising a host-server mechanism, an intra-domain server-server
coordination mechanism, and an inter-domain mechanism.

Draft -03 of the Malloc MIB was just submitted.
Until it appears in the I-D directories, a copy can be found at
   http://www.aciri.org/malloc/draft-ietf-malloc-malloc-mib-03.txt

Summary of changes since -02:
1) Replaced "public key" objects with "shared key" stuff (as discussed
   at previous IETF).
2) Added objects for configuring Prefix Coordinators (search for "Prefix")
3) Added objects for managing AAP pool sizes
4) Updated AAP objects for AAP configuration constants to match latest
AAP spec (AAP authors, please verify...)
4) Created an IANA-MALLOC-MIB to hold textual conventions for
lists of protcols, where they used to be in the base MIB.
This is now consistent with the Arch Doc, which allows other
protocols/mechanisms at various levels. Adding another mechanism
(e.g. GLOP) requires another enumerated value to be assigned, but
now this won't require updating the Malloc MIB once it becomes an RFC.
The IANA-MALLOC-MIB is currently included in an Appendix which will
be removed on publication (and posted on IANA's site).

This email begins a 2-week WG Last Call on the Malloc MIB, ending
July 24th.

-Dave

I have just submitted an updated version of the MASC draft. Before
it appears in the I-D repository, you can get a copy of it from:

http://netweb.usc.edu/masc/draft-ietf-malloc-masc-06.txt

The changes are:

 * [NAME-OF-CONSTANTS] changed to [NAME_OF_CONSTANTS]
 * The 2-bit Relation field values are defined as 00, 01, 10, 11
   instead of 0--3.
 * The text explicitly specifies that the Reserved fields MUST be
set to zero, and MUST be ignored by the receiver.
 * The recommended value for "Hold Time" (in the OPEN messages) is
   explicitly specified to be [HOLDTIME]
 * Removed the "Authentication Information" optional parameter
specification for the OPEN messages. Hence, now the document
specifies only the format of the optional parameters, but
does not define any particular parameters.
 * Added "Optional Parameters" field to the UPDATE message format.
This Optional Parameter format is same as the Optional Parameter
format of the OPEN message. No optional parameters are defined.
 * Explicitly specify that
"Unrecognized optional parameters MUST be silently ignored."
(for both OPEN and UPDATE messages).
 * Better explanation of O-bit usage. Also, O-bit terminology
cleanup: now the "O-bit" is "zeroed" instead of "reset".
 * Removed "Unsupported Optional Parameter" and "Authentication
Failure" OPEN message error subcodes (used by the NOTIFICATION
   messages).
 * "Security Consideration" section clean-up. Now the text refers
to IPsec as the security mechanism that can be used between
peers. Also, it explicitly recommends that each MASC node should
allow peering only with trustworthy nodes (otherwise malicious
UPDATEs may be injected that may disturb the normal operation of
   other MASC nodes).
  * Minor reformatting and cleanup; two new references added.

Thanks,
Pavlin

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Multicast-Address Allocation Working Group of the IETF.

Title : The Multicast Address Set Claim (MASC) Protocol
	Author(s)	: D. Estrin, R. Govindan, M. Handley, S. Kumar, P. Radoslavov, D. Thaler
	Filename	: draft-ietf-malloc-masc-06.txt
	Pages : 61
	Date : 12-Jul-00

This document describes the Multicast Address-Set Claim (MASC)
protocol which can be used for inter-domain multicast address set
allocation. MASC is used by a node (typically a router) to claim and
allocate one or more address prefixes to that node's domain. While a
domain does not necessarily need to allocate an address set for hosts
in that domain to be able to allocate group addresses, allocating an
address set to the domain does ensure that inter-domain group-
specific distribution trees will be locally-rooted, and that traffic
will be sent outside the domain only when and where external
receivers exist.

feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with

	Author(s)	: B. Haberman
	Filename	: draft-ietf-malloc-ipv6-guide-01.txt
	Pages : 5

This document specifies guidelines to be used when allocating IPv6
multicast addresses. The purpose of these guidelines is to reduce
the probability of IPv6 multicast address collision, not only at the
IPv6 layer, but also at the MAC layer of media that utilizes IEEE
802 addressing.
