Thanks for the explanation. Let's not go forward with the review of
draft-ietf-pkix-rfc2560bis-15. I'll leave it to the Apps ADs to
override if they would like to have the AppsDir review.

Hello,

During the last meeting I discussed with the Apps ADs about having
another Team Lead. The idea is to give another person the
opportunity to lead the team. There is an expectation that person
will deliver the AppsDir reviews.

It was suggested to have a three-month rotation so that several
persons can gain the experience. I will continue as Team Lead; i.e.
there will be two Team Leads. The person selected by the Apps ADs
would take full responsibility and I would be helping out.

The time commitment is two hours a week or less. I usually read all
the drafts listed for Last Call and identify reviewers. For example,
if a draft has a HTTP angle I suggest someone with HTTP expertise. I
also read each review which is posted.

Please comment about the above.

Best regards,
-sm

Subject: [appsdir] Team Lead for AppsDir

Best regards,
-sm

Hi SM!

I think it is a good idea to have two team leads for AppsDir. First,
you've been doing it on your own for a long time, so you have gained
knowledge about how it works and could pass that on to someone else.
Plus it shouldn't be a commitment to the role forever. :-)

Hi Mark,

Could you review draft-ietf-oauth-revocation-07? The deadline is
April 26. Please also copy the review to oauth@ietf.org (see below
for explanation).

There was a request to look into how to properly describe how clients
handle HTTP 5xx responses and also in how they don't care about the
body of a 200 response. Could you please see about that in the review?

Thanks,
-sm

Document: draft-ietf-geopriv-relative-location

Title: Relative Location Representation

Reviewer: Henry S. Thompson

Review Date: 2013-04-16

Summary: This draft is almost ready for publication as a Proposed
Standard but has a few issues that should be fixed before publication

Minor Issues:

  3 The use of the phrases '"baseline" location' and '"reference"
    location' to mean the same thing (?) is confusing in the extreme
    (as is the fact that sometimes the phrase includes scare-quotes,
    but sometimes not).

    For example, in the following, what is meant to be the difference
    between the two highlighted phrases?

      "In particular, while it is possible to put all location
       information into the 'reference' location (leaving an
                             ^^^^^^^^^
       universally broad 'baseline'), location objects SHOULD NOT have
       all location information in the baseline location. Doing this
                                       ^^^^^^^^
       would cause clients that do not understand relative location to
       incorrectly interpret the baseline location (i.e., the
       reference point) as the actual, precise location of the
       client."

   Furthermore wrt this passage, either I'm confused, or there's a
   mistake at the second highlighted point. I was expecting
   "relative", not "baseline" (or "reference"). After all, if all the
   information is in the baseline, then there is no information in the
   relative part, and so not processing it misses nothing???

   Ah, repeated re-readings have uncovered the origin of the problem,
   further back:

     "A client that does understand this extension will interpret the
      location within the relative element as a refinement of the
      baseline location, which gives the reference location for the
      relative offset."

   I read that the first five times as if it were bracketed like this:

      [a refinement of [the baseline location, which gives the
       reference location for the relative offset]].

   But you mean it as if it were bracketed like this:

    [a refinement of the baseline location], [which gives the
       reference location for the relative offset].

   So, I suggest you rephrase the whole sentence along the following
   lines:

     "A client that does understand this extension will interpret the
      location within the relative element as a refinement of the
      baseline location. The resulting refined location then gives
      the reference location for the relative offset."

  With that change, the paragraph containing the first quote above
  (the para beginning "The baseline location SHOULD be general
  enough") is comprehensible, but still very dense. I know
  illustrations are hard when one is restricted to ASCII-art, but a
  pair of examples would be a great help here, where one obeys the
  rules, and is not understood wrongly by a non-extension-supporting
  app, but the other breaks the rules, and therefore liable to be
  interpreted wrongly by such an app.

  And, finally, perhaps just _after_ the example now at the end of
  this section, just a brief gloss along the lines of

    The baseline location, given by the first ca:civicAddress element,
    the first child of the gp:location-info, is a street address, to
    the level of detail of the house number (123). The reference
    location is [now the front door, something else if you fix the 5.1
    issue below]. The actual location, which is still within the
    baseline building, is a point 100m east and 50m north [?] of the
    front door.

  4.11.1

    "An 'http:' or 'https:' URL MUST be used unless . . ."

  Wouldn't it be more in the spirit of 2119 to say "A URI with scheme
  other than 'http:' or 'https:' SHOULD NOT be used unless" ?

  5.1 Civic PIDF with Polygon Offset [also at end of section 3]

  This example uses the ca:INT element, which as far as I can tell is
  only defined in the expired draft-rosen-geopriv-pidf-interior [1].
  It would be better to adjust the example so that it uses elements
  and validates with schema documents all of which can be found in
  current RFCs.

  5.2 Geo PIDF with Circle Offset

  Once the cut-and-paste error identified below in the 'Nits' section
  is fixed, the result has 4 schema-validity errors, all of which I
  presume should be straightforward to correct:

   ex5.xml:14:4: Invalid per cvc-complex-type.1.2.4 : element
   {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:radius not allowed here (5) in element
   {http://www.opengis.net/pidflo/1.0}:Circle, expecting
    {http://www.opengis.net/pidflo/1.0}:radius

   ex5.xml:25:6: Invalid per cvc-complex-type.1.2.4 : element
   {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:Circle not allowed here (1) in element
   {urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:pidf:geopriv10:relative}:offset, expecting
    {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:OrientableCurve,...,
    {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:LineString

   ex5.xml:25:6: Invalid per cvc-complex-type.1.3 : undeclared
       attribute {None}:srsName

   ex5.xml:28:3: Invalid per cvc-complex-type.1.2.4 : element
   {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:radius not allowed here (4) in element
   {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:Circle, expecting
    {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:pos,
    {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:pointProperty,
    {http://www.opengis.net/gml}:pointRep,$

Nits:

  5.1, 5.2 [examples]

  These examples rely on schema documents which require moderately
  tedious indirection via the XML registry [2] to find -- it would be
  helpful if the references section at least included the relevant
  RFCs, at least 3863, 4479 and 5139.

  5.2

   <rel:urltype="image/png"> --> <rel:url type="image/png">

   There are a number of spurious lines at the end of the example,
   which don't match anything at the beginning and render the whole
   thing non-well-formed:

     </gp:geopriv>
    </status>
    <timestamp>2003-06-22T20:57:29Z</timestamp>
   </tuple>

   ???

  6. Schema Definition

  The repeated pattern used for complex type definition in this schema
  doc is as follows:

  <xs:complexType name="relativeType">
    <xs:complexContent>
      <xs:restriction base="xs:anyType">
	<xs:sequence>
         ...
  	</xs:sequence>
	<xs:anyAttribute namespace="##other" processContents="lax"/>
      </xs:restriction>
    </xs:complexContent>
  </xs:complexType>

  This is overly . . . complex and invites confusion, as it is
  strictly equivalent to the much simpler

  <xs:complexType name="relativeType">
    <xs:sequence>
     ...
    </xs:sequence>
    <xs:anyAttribute namespace="##other" processContents="lax"/>
  </xs:complexType>

  Please simplify all your complex type definitions along these lines.

Hello,

I would like to request an early review of
draft-ietf-spfbis-4408bis-14. The draft is currently in WGLC.

I would appreciate if you would volunteer. I'll leave it to the Apps
ADs to select the reviewer as I am the document shepherd for the draft.

I am reviewing it as a WG participant, and have been following its
development from the inception of the WG. I'm happy to call my review the
AppsDir review unless of course it's more appropriate to bring someone in
cold.

Many thanks for offering. You have contributed significantly to the
draft. I think that it is better not to call your review an AppsDir review.

As there are new reviewers I'll mention the following [1]:

It is important to avoid any perception of conflict of interest. I
leave it to the reviewer to notify me if I missed anything, e.g. the
author and the reviewer share a common affiliation, the reviewer
contributed to the draft previously, there was previously a conflict
between the author/document shepherd and the reviewer.

Best regards,

just to be official about it:

Appsdir: Please do a review of draft-ietf-spfbis-4408bis.

Good choice. It's one of the shortest I-Ds in history. ;-)

Biggest Fake Conference in Computer Science

We are researchers from different parts of the world and conducted a study on
the world’s biggest bogus computer science conference WORLDCOMP
( http://sites.google.com/site/worlddump1 ) organized by Prof. Hamid Arabnia
from University of Georgia, USA.

We submitted a fake paper to WORLDCOMP 2011 and again (the same paper
with a modified title) to WORLDCOMP 2012. This paper had numerous
fundamental mistakes. Sample statements from that paper include:

(1). Binary logic is fuzzy logic and vice versa
(2). Pascal developed fuzzy logic
(3). Object oriented languages do not exhibit any polymorphism or inheritance
(4). TCP and IP are synonyms and are part of OSI model
(5). Distributed systems deal with only one computer
(6). Laptop is an example for a super computer
(7). Operating system is an example for computer hardware

Also, our paper did not express any conceptual meaning. However, it
was accepted both the times without any modifications (and without
any reviews) and we were invited to submit the final paper and a
payment of $500+ fee to present the paper. We decided to use the
fee for better purposes than making Prof. Hamid Arabnia (Chairman
of WORLDCOMP) rich. After that, we received few reminders from
WORLDCOMP to pay the fee but we never responded.

We MUST say that you should look at the above website if you have any thoughts
to submit a paper to WORLDCOMP. DBLP and other indexing agencies have stopped
indexing WORLDCOMP’s proceedings since 2011 due to its fakeness. See
http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/conf/icai/index.html for of one of the
conferences of WORLDCOMP and notice that there is no listing after 2010. See Section 2 of
http://sites.google.com/site/dumpconf for comments from well-known researchers
about WORLDCOMP.

The status of your WORLDCOMP papers can be changed from scientific
to other (i.e., junk or non-technical) at any time. Better not to have a paper than
having it in WORLDCOMP and spoil the resume and peace of mind forever!

Our study revealed that WORLDCOMP is a money making business,
using University of Georgia mask, for Prof. Hamid Arabnia. He is throwing
out a small chunk of that money (around 20 dollars per paper published
in WORLDCOMP’s proceedings) to his puppet (Mr. Ashu Solo or A.M.G. Solo)
who publicizes WORLDCOMP and also defends it at various forums, using
fake/anonymous names. The puppet uses fake names and defames other conferences
to divert traffic to WORLDCOMP. He also makes anonymous phone calls and tries to
threaten the critiques of WORLDCOMP (See Item 7 of Section 5 of above website).
That is, the puppet does all his best to get a maximum number of papers published
at WORLDCOMP to get more money into his (and Prof. Hamid Arabnia’s) pockets.

Monte Carlo Resort (the venue of WORLDCOMP for more than 10 years, until 2012) has
refused to provide the venue for WORLDCOMP’13 because of the fears of their image
being tarnished due to WORLDCOMP’s fraudulent activities. That is why WORLDCOMP’13
is taking place at a different resort. WORLDCOMP will not be held after 2013.

The draft paper submission deadline is over but still there are no committee
members, no reviewers, and there is no conference Chairman. The only contact
details available on WORLDCOMP’s website is just an email address!

Let us make a direct request to Prof. Hamid arabnia: publish all reviews for
all the papers (after blocking identifiable details) since 2000 conference. Reveal
the names and affiliations of all the reviewers (for each year) and how many
papers each reviewer had reviewed on average. We also request him to look at
the Open Challenge (Section 6) at https://sites.google.com/site/moneycomp1

Sorry for posting to multiple lists. Spreading the word is the only way to stop
this bogus conference. Please forward this message to other mailing lists and people.

We are shocked with Prof. Hamid Arabnia and his puppet’s activities

keyword worldcomp fake for additional links.

The one good thing about this spam attack is that I've been reminded
about just how many IETF lists I subscribe to. ;-)

Hello,

Here's some feedback about the Joint Review experiment. The
experiment is going on better than I expected. Eliot came up with a
good idea for AppsDir reviews. He provided the non-Apps related
comments directly to ietf@ietf.org instead of including them in the
AppsDir review. I'll try that for some of my reviews.

I suggested the reviewers by looking at the expertise listed on the
AppsDir web page. I avoided having reviewers who usually work with
each other. It's a rough guess. I left it to the the two reviewers
to work out how to do the work. That was to encourage you to get to
know each other and get used to the interaction. It can be difficult
to work as a team as we don't always know what the other person
expects or will be doing, or when the person will be replying to an email.

In my opinion it is better for one of the two reviewers to interact
with the person responding to the review. If both reviewers comment
on the same issue and provide different opinions it can confuse the
person responding to the review.

I would like to thank Alexey, Xuan, Peter, Bert, Eliot and Tobias as
the joint review experiment would not work without their effort.

Best regards,
-sm

(Apologies, I have this habit of not including directorates on
directorate reviews.  Correcting this oversight.)

I have been selected as the Applications Area Directorate reviewer for
this draft (for background on appsdir, please see
http://trac.tools.ietf.org/area/app/trac/wiki/ApplicationsAreaDirectorate
).

Please resolve these comments along with any other Last Call comments
you may receive. Please wait for direction from your document shepherd
or AD before posting a new version of the draft.

Document: draft-ietf-netmod-rfc6021-bis-01
Title: Common YANG Data Types
Reviewer: Martin Thomson
Review Date: 2013-04-29

Summary: This draft is ready for publication as a Proposed Standard
RFC. I have some minor issues and questions.

This is some of the most readable code that I have seen.

Major Issues: none

Minor Issues:

Section 4:
There is an RFC that describes a canonical textual representation of
IPv6 addresses. You should use that: RFC 5952.

domain-name doesn't mention RFC 5890 at all (5891 is cited, but not
used in the text). I assume that these are LDH-labels:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5890#section-2.3.1 and that this
document should say as much.

Questions:

Section 3:
phys-address: why is this optionally empty? Maybe explain why in the
document - value absent?
hex-string: why is this required to include at least one octet? The
text does not mention this at all, I tend to find lots of uses for
empty octet strings, so this seems odd.
xpath1.0: are we expected to infer that "context" includes document
and where the namespace prefixes are bound?

Section 4:
ipv6-address: that is a very short IPv6 pattern. Is it provably
correct? I only ask because I've had occasion to build a real
pattern, and it's very long (the following is based on the "official"
ABNF definition):

         <xs:pattern value="[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}(:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){7}"/>
         <!-- Double colon start -->
         <xs:pattern value=":(:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1,7}"/>
         <!-- Double colon middle -->
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1,6}
                (:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1}"/>
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1,5}
                (:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1,2}"/>
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1,4}
                (:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1,3}"/>
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1,3}
                (:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1,4}"/>
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1,2}
                (:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1,5}"/>
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1}
                (:[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}){1,6}"/>
         <!-- Double colon end -->
         <xs:pattern value="([0-9A-Fa-f]{1,4}:){1,7}:"/>
         <!-- IPv4-Compatible and IPv4-Mapped Addresses -->
