As I understand the current situation, the following tools have been
declared critical:

	Datatracker
	IDnits
	RFCdiff
	postconfirm
	I-D Submission
	NomCom Support

I know that the NomCom support tools have not been moved to www.ietf.org
yet, but there is a plan in the works. The others are already there I
believe. Please correct me if I am incorrect.

Thanks,
  Russ

We currently have:

Datatracker - In Production
Idnits - In Final Testing
Postconfirm - In Production
I-D-Submittion - In Production (with a new big upgrade pending from team?)

We do not have:

RFCdiff - Henrik is waiting on Glen to finish IDNits redeployment
NomCom Support - Henrik is handling this personally.

That's how it looks to me, fwiw...

The list in #5 should include I-D Submission Tool; it has been declared
critical. Thus, we could merge #3 and #5.

We should report on the non-IETF Stream spec development RFP.

Here is the report from Steve Conte:

- Asia tools server: I have an email out to Masafumi Oe-san that
describes our preferred server configuration and will be hoping to have
root access for Henrik very soon
- Inventory: I have an action item to move my inventory from the excel
document to the tools wiki. I was unable to do this last week and will
begin this on Monday upon my return to work. I'm also looking at the
cold fusion code that Glen provided to me.
- CafePress Store: I'm not sure this is a tools item, but the update is
that as of last week when we last spoke about this, there was no action
taken by CafePress. I haven't received any email from CP stating that
my request has been worked on yet and I just logged in to see if there
were any changes to my account, but there have been none. I'll try to
call them again later today or tomorrow to see if I can get anywhere
past their customer service, though as you know, their customer service
department seems to have communication deficiencies with their main office

Requirements Development for Alternate Streams Extension to the Data =20
Tracker

The IETF Administrative Oversight Committee (IAOC), on behalf of the =20
IETF, announces this Request for Proposal to develop the requirements =20=

for data tracker extensions for the Alternate Streams - the Internet =20
Architecture Board (IAB), the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF), and =20=

Independent Submissions. The successful bidder will enter into a =20
contract with the Internet Society.

The current Data Tracker infrastructure provides support for the work =20=

of the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG), the IETF =20
Secretariat, and through the ietf.org website provides information to =20=

the community at large. The current tools are written in Perl and =20
Python and interface with a MySQL database.

The primary goal of this project is to develop consensus on a set of =20
requirements for extending the Data Tracker to capture and display the =20=

progression of Internet-Drafts (I-Ds) from the time they are accepted =20=

as candidate for the IAB, IRTF, or Independent Submissions document =20
stream through to the time the stream manager approves publication as =20=

an RFC, or the document is declared to be =93Dead.=94 Also, the Data =20=

Tracker provides the community the information needed to process, =20
monitor and manage I-Ds in an open and transparent manner. One or more =20=

of this project=92s deliverables may be used to issue an RFP for the =20
design and development of these enhancements to the Data Tracker

The community engagement process to be used for this project shall be =20=

in accordance with normal IETF working methods and expectations. =20
These include participation in IETF meetings and e-mail discussions, =20
off-line chats, and the creation of one or more I-Ds for review and =20
comment by stakeholders and the community.

The RFP can be found at: http://iaoc.ietf.org/rfpsrfis.html

Proposals must be received via email at rpelletier@isoc.org no later =20
than May 3, 2010, 5:00 P.M. EDT. All questions/inquiries must be =20
submitted in writing and must be received no later than midnight, EDT, =20=

April 16, 2010. Responses to questions and inquiries shall be posted =20
on the IAOC website, iaoc.ietf.org/rfpsrfis.html by midnight, EDT, =20
April 23, 2010.

The point of contact regarding this RFP is the IETF Administrative =20
Director, Ray Pelletier.

Tools Call 4-9-10

Attendees
Henrik
Bob
Russ
Ray
Glen
Alexa
Julian

1. Bash the Agenda

2. Database Redesign
Henrik
	No change since Code Sprint
Next steps: complete model uses new table and test it; import group
info in current DT plus the history that has not been in the tracker

Russ
IOLA Work Order has been approved by IAOC and they'll begin 1 May
End of that move real tools to DB to see whether Henrik or Pasi model
correct
Also a Secretariat tool moved to test DB redesign; IAOC approved
Rolodex yesterday

3. Alternate Stream spec development RFP
	9 April announcement
	3 May Proposals due
RFP for RFC Editor and IANA will be let after Alt stream complete

4. WebEx API and Vols

Alexa
	Talked with Joe Hildebrand
	How to make WebEx easier to use for WG chairs;
Suggestion was to work with tools team to automate initiation of WebEx
Series of clicks, entry of host key, initiate the Innkeeper

Russ
	Where are script requirements?

Alexa
Need to get Joe and ? together to work out

Russ
Perhaps Joe and Joel should discuss

Henrik
Probably not particularly complicated; requires some time to do and
test

Russ
May be able to use to time stamp audio stream
Probably Joe, Joel and Henrik should discuss

Alexa
WebEx Volunteers - start training people to take care of WebEx during
the sessions
Training by WebEx person, perhaps on Sunday in Maastricht and
possibly again in Beijing
	Hildebrand to coordinate

Ray
Scaling WebEx use is the issue; and that requires each session support

Russ
Put burden on the WG Chair to get volunteers

Henrik
	Why so manpower intensive?

5. Mission Critical Tools Transfer to Secretariat
idnits - Done, but not announced
	rfcdiff - up in April

NomCom - we (Glen and Henrik?) need to agree where to put it, rsync
and test it.

xml2rfc - new vol team maintaining; xml.resource.org --> using tools
server(s) to respond
breakage issues because code is pointing to xml.resource.org Also
on rfc editor servers.

I-D Submission Tool - more complex proposition; not ready for beta
testing; needs stuff done for alpha testing; maybe outsource it

Glen - top priority; Secretariat getting complaints all the time

6. Datatracker UI Updates: Screen Scraping Concerns
No apps broken because no complaints
Some other automation broken; some changes need to be made
		Vol or Contractor - Volunteer
Code Sprinter? - Henrik to look for one

7. Anaheim Code Sprint Results
Different Data Tracker than going into it - Pasi over many months
Will need many incremental changes and releases
Better Code Sprints - organization, Django familiarity -

8. Conte Update
	CafePress Store
Bob - have our lawyer get in touch with them and free up the ietf
address for us.
Ray - will get in touch with Jorge for that

9. Other Business
Draft Signing Project for Internet Drafts
Glen waiting on Russ, but 95% done
Will be doing a dry run, last stage ask Verisign to sign the
certificates
Verisign donated smime certs for these I-D signing

Porting the IESG datatracker interface to Django
Work Order approved and IOLA to begin 1 May

Greetings again. Is there a status page for the Tools website, hopefully maintained on a system that is not co-located with the website? In the past few days, I have gotten strange results when trying to access <http://tools.ietf.org/>, where it takes a long time to get a response but no page comes up. Being able to go to a page that says "yes, we know this is down" would be useful.

Short of that, is there a way to determine which of the two machines (208.66.40.242 vs. 194.146.105.14) might be causing a problem at a given moment?

Umm. I have monitoring in place, but no status page like the one you
ask for here. The main reason till now has been that whenever one of
the servers have been down, I've seen it and fixed it or adjusted the
DNS records before anybody else seems to have seen it as more than a
transient issue...

> In the past few days, I have gotten strange results when

!! Ouch! Checking all the machines which should be active at this time
(23:54 CEST 18 April 2010) they all respond virtually instantly to
me. This doesn't mean there isn't a problem, but makes it more likely
that it's a routing or peering problem, rather than a server problem.

> Being able to go to a page
> that says "yes, we know this is down" would be useful.

I see. That can be fixed.

(I think that as long as I'm running tools.ietf.org you'll never see
such a message at that page, since I'll do my damndest to see to it
that people don't have a bad experience going to tools.ietf.org -- in
other words, if I know about a problem so that there would be a 'down'
message up, I've probably already fixed it. But there could be
exceptions.)

Mmm. There's one page on each of the machines which is never redirected:

http://tools.ietf.org/server

If you go to that, it should tell you the name and address of the machine
you're being pointed at, which would be the machine having trouble.

Of course, if you can't get a response from the box, that's not very
helpful; then a commandline 'host tools.ietf.org' might give you a
relevant answer -- but since it seems browsers sometime cache dns responses
longer than they should, this isn't certain either...

I'd appreciate getting more information about the problem -- including which
IP address you're connecting from, so I can search the logs on the server.

Regards,

	Henrik

Just now, I tried to run the idnits tool. The site took forever (>1 min) to respond. After a while, it started to give me the idnits page, but then took forever (>5 min). The same was true for "server".

# host tools.ietf.org
tools.ietf.org has address 208.66.40.242
tools.ietf.org has address 194.146.105.14
tools.ietf.org has IPv6 address 2a01:3f0::31:214:22ff:fe21:bb
tools.ietf.org has IPv6 address 2001:1890:1112:1::2a

I vote "uncertain".
