Still attempting to log in to the meeting, with no success.

"I'm sorry, your entry 969965480 is not valid, or the meeting has not
started yet."

None of you are on iChat, so I'm wondering if this call got cancelled,
and I didn't see it.

I'll check back in in a bit.

Tools Call - 14 May 2010

Attendees:

Bob Hinden
Julian Reschke
Steve Conte
Henrik Levkowetz
Russ Housley
AMS Secretariat
Glenn Barney
Robert Sparks

1. Bash the Agenda

- No Changes

2. Database Redesign

HL: Not much change since last call. Mostly working with contractors. =
Should
continue within a week or so.
RH: Status of if Henrik is right or Pasi
HL: Work has mostly strengthened that Henrik is right, but not complete =
yet

3. IT Work Plan - see below

RH: IAOC updated based on IAOC retreat: broke it down to quarters=20
1st Q:
- Henrik as Project Manager
- Ed J on contract
-- Docs delivered this week, updated yesterday
- Entered into IDIQ contracts with 3 Django developers

2nd Q:=20
- AMS provided Rolodex project, two waves, only charged for one
- IOLA first contract=20
- New work order to complete ID submissions tool, awaiting bids
-- Question from a bidder, request Henrik to answer. HL ACKs
- Work order bid to liaison tool
-- originally planned for next year, but budget/time says we can move =
forward
- AMS: Area mgmt, group mgme, telechat=20
- RFP out to develop specs for IAOC, IAB and IRTF (alternate streams)

Q3:=20

- Expecting DB conversion to be complete
- Changes to IESG tracker
-- IOLA working on converting from PERL to Django
- AMS advance their contract to provide more support to IESG and IETF =
functions

Q4:=20

- Ed's work to get under work order
- Alternate streams under work order
-- moved to Q4 so conversion is complete, may be able to move these =
forward if=20
conversion happens sooner
- Additional work for AMS

4. WG & Author Front End Specs - status

RH: mostly covered above
2 Drafts posted. Docs make up support of the frontend for the =
datatracker

5. Mission Critical Tools Transfer to Secretariat

GB: idnits complete, standing by for more
rfcdiff and nomcom should be next
can probably do them in parallel
RH would like nomcom to be up and running before voting members of =
nomcom are seated
should be seated before Maastricht meeting

GB: perception of idsubmission is mostly done, and work to vendors is =
primarly to=20
finish it up. RH says mostly right, but work is a bit more than =
originally thought.
Django versions are different, etc
HL: Conversion also has a number of flaws which haven't been addressed =
yet.
GB: AMS experiencing pain over existing tool and asks for expedite. RH =
agrees

6. Datatracker UI Updates: Screen Scraping Concerns

RH: when datatracker changed, no one has contacted RH about screen =
scraping tool being
damaged. Agreed to add interfaces if people complained. Jari's tools =
broke, but didn't
complain (unknown resolution).
HL: Contacted by Jari about some things that couldn't be scraped. HL =
added interfaces
which should be out next release.
RS: message from Jari that new tools will be out soon. =20
One comment back is that URI patterns may change as we move more and =
more to datatracker
style URIs. People don't necessarily want that and would like to see =
the traditional URIs
(even if handled by redirects)
GB: Would be nice if we can keep it to a minimum as it may become =
difficult to manage
RH: Biggest concern is that people may point to things like msg archives =
and want to=20
ensure that the legacy URLs continue to work
HL: thinks ways can be worked out to continue to have legacy URLs =
working. Biggest
challenge will be to not regenerate mailman archives as it may renumber =
messages
BH: Useful to publish a list of redirects? GB: Maybe.. there's a few =
ways to do it

7. Maastricht Codesprint

Announcement made
Wiki website up
added sprint to list of events near IETF meeting
SC to use his punchlist to coordinate room
HL concerned that it may be too close to "dining area" which may impact =
the ability to=20
stay focused
RH it's the same room that will be used for Terminal Room and will push =
back if there's=20
issues surrounding that

8. Conte Update
	CafePress Store
SC: storeID still not available. Jorge Contreras drafted a =
letter to Cafepress and
SC provided dates and information. Letter to be sent soon. =
Many dissatisfied with=20
Cafepress' lack of response/action as well as print limitations =
and suggested that=20
it may be wise to look for alternative printing facilities.
=09
	Code Sprint
	Notes above in Item 7
=09
	Asian Server
Server in Japan should be up in the next few weeks. Masafumi =
Oe-san said it should be
ready mid-May and we're now entering that period
=09
	Deep Inventory
application inventory will be posted to the wiki today. SC will =
coordinate with HL
where to associate the URL within the wiki
=09
9. Other Business

No AOB

Hi Russ,

If I can find out where the text is composed before addition to the
scheduled_announcements DB table, it's probably easy. I've been
searching for this for a bit now, without success. I have managed
to find code which is labelled as old unused with what appears to be
part of the template for this, but not any actual code which has
the template.

Glen, do you happen to know where this lives?

I do not know. I wonder if this is a secretariat cut-and-paste rather
than an in-code thing.

I'll ask them and let you know if I get any info on it.

The messages come from two places. The ID Submission Tool sends one of
the messages out, via auto_post.cgi and status.cgi. The Secretariat
Tool sends the other message out via EmailAnnouncement.cfm and
generatenotification.cfm.

We could change the text in the ColdFusion code rather easily. However,
in the case of the ID Submission Tool, the variables used to generate
the email messages are also used for other things, and the code is not
particularly clear as to what is done where.

Since this is a wish, and not a crisis, and since new versions of both
systems are coming soon, I recommend holding this request and making
this change in the new code bases, rather than risking breakage now.

Hi,

during Anaheim, I took over for Pasi as the IESG person on the team. It =
took us a while to sort the list subscription, etc., out, so I'm not up =
to speed yet with current projects.

I do have a question, though: Would it be possible to find a different =
time/day for the call? As far as I understand it, it's Friday evening =
(my time), and any day would be better than Friday...

Thanks,
Lars=

That would be appreciated by me too. Although for me the call is one
hour earlier local time than for Lars, it's still late on Friday, and
sometimes one wants to get out of the city to some weekend activities
a bit earlier Friday.

Agreed. If it was only the IDST I could change that, but coordinating
the changes of both at this time seems the wrong place to spend energy.

Hi Ray,

I'm going to be on vacation from June 4th to June 18th, so no date
in the June 7 - 9 range is going to be particularly good. I'm going
to answer this as if the dates were for the week May 31st to June 4th,
so that the poll can still be helpful in finding a time which would
work for Lars and all more generally.

Best,

	Henrik

Ray,

I responded to the poll, but also wanted to say that that week was =
already busy for me. I would have more available time, if it was =
another week or the next month. =20

<http://tools.ietf.org/> does not say what is stored in addresses like <WG>-chairs@tools.ietf.org or how to change it. I believe that one of them might be out of date, but have no way to verify.

<sigh> Understood.
