Yes, this is a bug of the new submit tool. I have fixed the bug in
the ticket http://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/ticket/654.

    Best,

Here are some rough notes from IESG discussions yesterday.

###

Tools-Related Notes from IESG Retreat
May 2011

Legend:
  AI =3D action item
FR =3D feature request for the wish list
FYI =3D merely an informational note

AI: add a cookie to choose format below document "header" on
datatracker.ietf.org (e.g., plain text vs. HTML)

AI: re-add ability to Last Call on RFC to go from Proposed to Draft

FYI: moving to one button (no longer "Edit" vs. "Change state")

AI: allow "AD is watching" as initial state

FYI: add sub-State for "Waiting on WG"? use "External Party" instead

AI: don't show DISCUSS box unless click "discuss" radio button

FR: at https://datatracker.ietf.org/iesg/agenda/documents/ allow
"Download PDFs" (or other formats)

FYI: move historical discusses to History tab? No strong desire for this.=
=2E.

FYI: might need template for media type registrations (these are IETF
contributions because asking for IETF consensus) -- no need for
"registration-*" yet, Pete and Peter to follow up after IANA-related
discussions happening now

FYI: possible need for "liaison-*" in the future, as well

AI: want to see IPR disclosures in auto-generated Last Call text

FR: pull downrefs into idnits

AI: auto-include abstract in write-up

FR: wrap the preview for "save and send email"

Hi -

The cookie(s) editable by <http://datatracker.ietf.org/cookies/> are not =
being persisted sufficiently by some folks browsers.
It may be that the choice of leaving such cookies around is beyond their =
control.

David, for instance, is still having to repeatedly re-opt to get the =
full draft on the tracker's main document page.
This is quite frustrating (I had a similar experience before the =
lifetime of the cookies were changed around Prague),
and it's likely to become more of a problem as we allow greater =
customization of what the tracker displays.

Are cookies really the best tool for this? Should we consider moving =
this state into the database associated with a login instead?

RjS

p.s. For this particular bit of configuration, I'm frequently asked why =
the default is to show a truncated version of the draft instead
of the full version, making truncation an option. My understanding is =
that this makes it far less likely that a mobile user would=20
download a large document (a very large mib for example) that they =
didn't intend to read right now anyhow. Was there any other=20
motivation for the sense of the choice as it is currently implemented?

Robert -

We use cookies on the mail IETF website for style sheet selection persistence,
and are not aware of anyone having problems (which may mean that there are
problems and nobody has complained yet). But perhaps looking at what we did
might be helpful?

Perhaps making the datatracker client-aware or mobile-aware might be a useful
alternative?

Hi Everyone,

Some time back, David Harrington made a request via our Secretariat
ticket system that we include links to the audio archives in the draft
proceedings view. After looking into this, we realized that this is a
Tools Team item and not something that the Secretariat can do. As
such, I'm passing along this request in case someone on the tools team
has the time to add a link to the audio archives from the draft
proceedings (datatracker) view.

Thanks,
Alexa

I thought the proceedings code was secretariat maintained? I don't =
believe I have access to the source, for example. If that's wrong, =
please let me know.

Is this intended to be an incremental step, providing links to the whole =
existing streams, rather than being the project that divides the streams =
into working group or topic-within-a-working group chunks?

Note: Robert and I chatted about this via IM. First, the draft
proceedings view I'm referring to is here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/81/materials.html
. Second, Robert indicated he might have an idea of how to do this,
but that we should probably chat about it briefly on the next tools
call. He believes that this may be a code sprint sized work item.

Pete,

Thank you for sending along these requests.

To be clear, this is regarding the RFC errata verification system (which =
is used by "stream managers" to change the content and/or status of =
errata reports), not the public errata system.

> 1. Instead of an "Edit or Verify", please make it an "Edit" button and =
let me change to whatever state (including "Reject" and "Hold for =
Document Update") in there. I've screwed up twice, forgetting to save an =
edit and then clicking "Hold for Document Update". It would be nice if I =
could set the correct status inside of the Edit screen.
>=20

It seems the one-click action of the "Hold for Document Update" button =
(as described on http://www.rfc-editor.org/how_to_verify.html) is =
causing this issue. The "Hold for Document Update" path is the only =
status change that works in this manner; the others have "Preview" and =
"Edit Again" options.

In general, errata are edited before their status is changed. Often the =
submitted report has a typo or has the incorrect type =
(Editorial/Technical), or the verifier wants to add a note, so 'Edit or =
Verify' is a typical first step for errata processing.=20

> 2. Please allow me to go back and change errata that I have edited, at =
least for some short period of time. As I said above, I've screwed up a =
few already and it would be nice to fix them without having to bug the =
RFC Editor staff.
>=20

What period of time would you recommend? The concept was that errata =
(especially once their status is changed) would be fairly static over =
time in order to be useful.

Thank you.

Hi Alice -

Actually, that's far from clear from the interface. Any new verifier is =
going to be extremely reticent to hit the edit or verify button if the =
goal is to reject or hold for document update.
(It was a long time before I figured out by myself I could make that =
edit step and then not choose verify).

We can leave notes for future IESG members on the IESG wiki, but it =
would make it far more likely that the right thing "just happened" if =
you either separated edit out as a standalone interface, or
integrated hold and reject onto the same form with verify.

Brainstorming:

One approach you might consider is adding a "Please revert this to =
reported" button. You could then code (and change at your discretion) =
logic that either automatically approved and executed the request, or =
sent email to a human to determine if it's the right thing to do. One =
initial policy might be to automatically approve those requests if the =
most recent change was within the last 24 (or perhaps fewer hours).

That said, while I agree with Pete that it would be nicer if we didn't =
have to interrupt someone else's day because we bumped a button wrong, I =
don't think we're at the point where just handling it with email between =
people as we do now is over-burdensome.=20

Very hard problem unfortunately because the information kept won't =
actually let you reconstruct an agenda in the past, at least not =
accurately. That things get added/removed/deferred, even as a call is in =
progress,
is manageable with the forward-facing-in-time views. A very different =
kind of data needs to be kept for historic views.

One thing I've considered is laying down the information that would let =
us see what the old agenda pages looked like just at the moment the =
secretary rolls things forward (which you see now as the old agenda =
going away),
but again, it even that will be non-trivial.

Henrik - will this be significantly different under the new schema?

The old tracker had something that might have gotten close to this, but =
only for your own discusses and comments.
You might go look at the "Ballot - Search Criterea" section of =
<https://datatracker.ietf.org/cgi-bin/idtracker.cgi> and see how close =
that gets to scratching the itch.

In any case, the most surefire way to get what you want is to come to =
the codesprint and make it happen :).
