Hi Henrik,

Input file: draft-ietf-nfsv4-xattrs-06
Version: 1.3.0 (we still need to update to 1.3.1)
Issue: Table markup in xml
Files available:
=
https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/v3test/draft-ietf-nfsv4-xattrs-06.original
https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/v3test/draft-ietf-nfsv4-xattrs-06.txt
https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/v3test/draft-ietf-nfsv4-xattrs-06.xml

Note: I didn=92t include a diff as the text output is the same as the =
.original version. =20

Section 8.4.5. includes a table that is marked up in xml a bit =
differently than we expected. =20

The text output is the same when using the current version of xml2rfc, =
but instead of creating=20
a continuous comma-separated list in <c> tags, it has generated <c> tags =
for each line. We are=20
concerned about how this table would be handled by v3 as well as other =
formats (html for example). =20
To try to work around, we added blank lines above and below and tried =
separating the entries=20
using +=97 lines between them (to no avail). Is there another way to =
make this table work (other=20
than copying the figure in as <artwork>)?

Thank you.

Ack, right.

Hmm, right.

I see the problem. I'm not sure there's a way for the converter to know
for sure whether the lines should be part of one single cell, or should
be separate cells (the way it's done now).

Handling this as <artwork/> would not be good. It's possible that the
only really good handling would be to manually remove all the extra
<c> and </c> tags from the xml.

I'll see if I can tweak id2xml somehow, though.

Best regards,

	Henrik

I understand the pain point, but I also have to point out that it might
be counter productive to sink too much time into the conversion tool,
when people are waiting for the *actual* V3 tooling to surface...

converts this:

which seems reasonable.

If you don't want the added borders, you only need to change style=3D'all=

to style=3D'full' in the texttable element.

I expect this will be part of the next release.

Best regards,

The merge plan has been updated. There's been 2 feature releases and 3
bugfix releases since the last call, details here:=20
https://datatracker.ietf.org/release/

The dmarc workaround code has been packaged, but testing has proven
difficult; have had to write a new tool for test traffic injection.
Working on this interleaved with datatracker work and meeting prep.

> -- Impact on Internet-Draft-specific mail aliases

Aliases should be handled by the workaround code, too.

Yes. This is now item number 12 on the work plan; it can be pushed up if=

desired, but most items above it seems to be more urgent.

Working on queue of Trac issues. Since the last call one task of note is the
effort to support Elasticsearch as the search backend for the archive. Load
testing and some production integration issues are still outstanding on this.

Hi,
IESG is basically Ok with this. See comments below.

+1 on this. I deleted text about the same thing from my previous note,
because I was assuming that links to the static page now would be
pointing to the datatracker with the appropriate search set to see IESG
statements.
The IAB does something like that with their own Internet Drafts and
RFCs.

I was looking at various statistics-relating issues and the overall =
picture today in the sprint with Henrik.

I was working on fixing some bugs in my tools that Tero had noted, as =
well as thinking about developing a new function (either in data tracker =
or my tools) that would allow e.g., email notification to a user when a =
new document matching user=E2=80=99s specified filter (e.g., =
=E2=80=9Ccompany=3DX=E2=80=9D) appears. We figured it would be easiest =
to do the latter on the data tracker, perhaps as an extension of the =
notification mechanism. But verified email addresses, user accounts, =
etc. would already exist so this would be relatively easy to do.

However, we were also looking at the overall situation with statistics =
and pages describing either people=E2=80=99s or other entities=E2=80=99s =
documents (such as companies or countries).

The newly developed stats pages on the data tracker are great [1], and =
so are Henrik=E2=80=99s earlier created other pages (e.g., author pages =
[2]), but it seems that there=E2=80=99s some need for further =
development as well. It would be so nice to get to the end in the =
information pages and statistics project, with clean, =
datatracker-supported data sources and full integration of all data.

I think we should complete the work, and as a concrete goal, I=E2=80=99d =
like to get to a state where we can comfortably replace various links to =
my pages with links to the datatracker pages.

So what remains? Different people probably have different ideas here, =
perhaps we can together get a common view of what is needed. Let me =
start, and suggest a list of things I see from my perspective. It would =
be helpful if others provided additional items so that we can build a =
complete list.

I think we have at least the following efforts to do:

1) Make links to pages such as [2] available from elsewhere on the web =
site, e.g., from the statistics pages. Don=E2=80=99t think people are =
currently finding them.
2) Make per-company and per-country pages, similar to, e.g., [3].
3) Make an effort to correct (or unify in web representation) company =
names that are part of the same larger entity. See e.g. [4] and the =
various Huaweis :-)
4) Make an effort to correct faultily recognised company names and other =
similar data that clobbers some of the stats pages. For instance, at [4] =
on the first page 10 out of 22 names are odd and likely bad.
4) Make a project out of backfilling the datatracker with info from =
early RFCs. See for instance [5].
5) Consider enhancing the notification feature to support at least =
notification about =E2=80=9Cnew draft from company x=E2=80=9D (this is =
an optional feature request, not a mandatory part of the stats project)
