Ohh, I misunderstood that. Perhaps note this down in the to be Security
Section :)

That normally ensures the datatracker does the tracking and the diffs,
but it does not look like that happened for this document. It appears
as a fresh submit without any history. Even weirder, it seems that the
old document indeed got the update reference:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-sury-toorop-dnsop-server-cookies-00

but the new document does not link back to the old one and misses the
diff.

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-dnsop-server-cookies-00

I CC:ed the tools team on this who might be able to see/fix what happened?

Paul:

The replaces and replaced-by information comes from the submitter. In =
this case:

Set submitter to "Willem Toorop <willem@nlnetlabs.nl>", replaces =
to draft-sury-toorop-dnsop-server-cookies, =
draft-eastlake-dnsop-server-cookies

happened?

It looks like there are four drafts in the replaced-by history:

	draft-sury-toorop-dns-cookies-algorithms
	draft-sury-toorop-dnsop-server-cookies
	draft-eastlake-dnsop-server-cookies
	draft-ietf-dnsop-server-cookies

The history tab of draft-ietf-dnsop-server-cookies shows all four, =
allowing the comparison of the last one to any of the earlier ones.

Please note 6.101.0 at https://datatracker.ietf.org/release
> - Python2 to Python3 transition -- Henrik
> - Meeting Application Improvements by IOLA -- Robert
We met with IOLA on Aug 21. They indicated that they were still
backlogged and intended to start late Sep/ early Oct. I have a query out
to IOLA for an update.
> - Datatracker maintenance by DashCare -- Robert
We had a kick-off call for the review tool improvement project with
DashCare on Aug 19. The developer is off to a quick start with many
improvements already committed, showing a quickly obtained and very
solid understanding of the datatracker overall.
> - IRSG balloting -- Robert
Akayla had a slow start on the IRSG balloting project, but is now making
regular progress. We expect the project to be substantially complete
before IETF106 in November.

> - WWW search to provide additional pointers -- Greg

The www project got a lot of attention from me this month, with a
release (v0.9.7) that moved the IESG statement to live under the IESG
pages instead of with the blog pages.

The site also had some significant performance issues that took time to
diagnose and address. While diagnosing, we identified several major
changes that need to be made to the way the website currently serves
blog pages. These are being tracked at
https://github.com/ietf-tools/wagtail_website/issues (in particular
issues 10 and 11) and will be addressed in upcoming releases. Greg will
be entering several other requests (including analytics integration) as
issues soon.

>
> 3. RFC Services Projects
> - RPC testing of new RFC format tools -- Heather and Robert

This has mostly been going well. The questions and change requests are
showing convergence, and I think we're ready to go.

That said, there was a memory-exhaustion issue noted last night with
rfc-xmldiff. Glen and SoaringHawk are discussing it. I expect it will be
addressed quickly.

> - Security Review of RPC Tools -- Robert and Heather
On hold until after the swtichover.
> - Rendering errata in more useful way -- Robert

This is deployed at https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/beta/errata.

We will be working at adding links from the datatracker to it (when
appropriate) in the next few weeks.

This, and the rest of Yangcatalog development is proceeding, and quickly
given the LOE (1.5 day/week) we have from the current contractor.

The architecture of the containerized yangcatalog project improved
significantly this month, addressing several places where we were
exposing network interfaces that we didn't need to.

We're trying using a github project to visualize progress on the
yangcatalog project. It's available at
https://github.com/orgs/YangCatalog/projects/1. For work on
containerization only, filter the results to
https://github.com/orgs/YangCatalog/projects/1?card_filter_query=repo%3Ayangcatalog%2Fdeployment

This looks correct to me both on the datatracker and at tools.ietf.org.

If there's still something that's not right, please bring focus to it.

I assume there are two sides to this. First, the Wagtail side needs to =
stop making the queries, and second, the now extraneous APIs can be =

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-dnsop-server-cookies-00

In the top bar, there is no mention of the previous or current version,
despite that if you click "diff2", you see a diff to a previous version.

Compare it to a random other document:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-wang-ipsecme-ike-yang-00

There is no previous document here, yet the top bar shows:

 	Versions: 00

While diagnosing, we identified several major changes that need to be made to the way the website currently serves blog pages. These are being tracked at https://github.com/ietf-tools/wagtail_website/issues (in particular issues 10 and 11) and will be addressed in upcoming releases. Greg will be entering several other requests (including analytics integration) as issues soon.

Those are different things - the second is tracked in #12.

The first thing is more like what you were addressing at the last
codesprint - the view needs to do better work so the template doesn't
hit the database so many times.

The only overlap between the two is that some of the queries the
template is currently making will change (since they'll be going after
something other than the locally-cached datatracker information).

The concern earlier was that questions related to the RFP would distract
the RPC during the changeover. But since that changeover is expected
next week, perhaps we can get this issued immediately after?

The RPC Code review SoW is here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HUlZgoL9UyUyxz1rY-mEZPSY4tZCJ3HzP7Mw-lDSZbE/edit#heading=h.48d1pvs7vq39

Before it is issued, the discussion of the structure of the repository
needs to be updated to the strictly post-v3 codebase so that bidders
have a reasonable sense of scope of the work.

The Automated schedule builder SoW is here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wrKN3dC_lL8lc3LxaS1-B65YohMmfEu2IiAzY2V-ako/edit

I believe it is ready to go out for bid

Hi everyone,

Below are my notes from yesterday=E2=80=99s tools call.=20

Liz Flynn
Project Manager / IETF
lflynn@amsl.com

Tools Call Notes -- 10 September 2019 at 1:00 Eastern

1. Datatracker Projects
  - Expected Datatracker Releases -- Robert and Henrik
    -- https://trac.tools.ietf.org/tools/ietfdb/browser/trunk/PLAN
  - Python2 to Python3 transition =E2=80=93 Henrik

Henrik: The next step will be taken when we have transitioned to the =
next version OS on the servers and when we have everything containerized =
or running under Python 3. The main waiting point is Trac, which we =
still don=E2=80=99t know if it will be released under 3 in time for us. =
Most likely the next work item is to containerize Trac.=20

  - Meeting Application Improvements by IOLA =E2=80=93 Robert

Robert: IOLA is still planning to complete the project by the date they =
had bid but they have been short on time.

  - Datatracker maintenance by DashCare =E2=80=93 Robert

The developer is in a good place and they expect to have the project =
completed on time.

  - IRSG balloting -- Robert

Akayla has been working on this and had a slow start. We=E2=80=99ve =
turned the bend and started with a reasonable pace of progress. We=E2=80=99=
ve updated the delivery time to be right around the time of IETF 106.=20

2. Community & Other Projects
  - WWW search to provide additional pointers -- Greg
-- Give pointers to datatracker and mailarchive

Russ: Last time we talked about doing search over WWW, the datatracker, =
and the mail archive. That has been moved to the parking lot. Now, when =
you do a search on WWW you=E2=80=99ll get pointers to additional =
information in the datatracker and mail archive. This was fairly quick =
and the other thing is a tougher project. It will be implemented very =
shortly if it hasn=E2=80=99t been already.=20

Robert: It will be in the next release or two of the website.=20

3. RFC Services Projects
  - RPC testing of new RFC format tools -- Heather and Robert

Heather: There is only one outstanding piece to test, re the metadata =
when a document has been obsoleted. Next week we=E2=80=99ll be ready to =
publish in v3. XML to RFC output is so close that we=E2=80=99re still on =
target for next week.=20

Russ: Idea is that starting with documents approved by a stream next =
week, those will be v3 through the whole process? The ones already =
approved will be v2?

Alice: Documentss that are in auth48 will go into an auth48 round 2 and =
move to v3. There are less than a handful of docs that will be =
published in v2.=20
=
https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/rfc-interest/yEsDj8BR6AwtLi6UduKOPVc=
9SIo) points to transition details =
(https://www.rfc-editor.org/rse/wiki/doku.php?id=3Dv3implementation)

  - Security Review of RPC Tools -- Robert and Heather

Robert: The directory structure in the details of the SOW needs to be =
updated. I will talk with Priyanka and re-circulate the SOW.

  - Rendering errata in more useful way -- Robert
-- How will it be deployed on rfc-editor.org?

The beta of rfc-editor.org now includes errata. They can be linked from =
the Datatracker soon. Heather will talk to Alice and Sandy about the =
format of the errata and the URL; if =E2=80=9Cbeta=E2=80=9D should stay =
in the URL, which will require redirects later, or if the URL should be =
changed now. The errata pages can always be regenerated if people have a =
lot of suggestions for feature requests.

4. Server Infrastructure
  - IESG discussions of DMARC -- Henrik and Alexey
-- When do we expect the next release of OpenARC? Ever?

Henrik: We will probably see OpenARC but maybe not soon. During the last =
IETF the code we need was written. It=E2=80=99s maybe being tested and =
it=E2=80=99s maybe been committed, but there=E2=80=99s no release. I =
will poke them again.

5. YANG Catalog
  - Putting yangcatalog.org in a Docker container =E2=80=93 Robert

The main developer does not have more time available for us but is =
making progress. See https://github.com/orgs/YangCatalog/projects/1 for =
progress. Containerization is in the middle of the list of priorities.

  - Adding features from the yangvalidator project =E2=80=93 Eric

Eric: We have someone committed for .5 day a week to build unit tests. =
Work is underway.
I=E2=80=99ve done nothing regarding yang validator yet.=20

6. SustainIETF.org
  - It redirects to ietf.org

Right now this is just being redirected to ietf.org. It=E2=80=99s up to =
the LLC to decide if they want to do something else with it. This will =
be taken off the agenda for future calls unless there is something new =
to do with it.=20

7. Parking Lot
  - Search over www, datatracker, and mailarchive

8. AOB

For conversation:

Keith Moore is looking for something more than currently proposed for
the last-call experiment. He'd like to be able to subscribe to messages
about a given document (or topic) by clicking on things in the last-call
announcement message, and not get traffic for anything he didn't opt-in to.

Thoughts?

Yes, I had the same question in my mind.

I don't mind at all.

Well, I've written one before.   Back when everyone used sendmail,
people used to use my bulk_mailer tool to improve performance because
sendmail (at that time, at least) delivered mail to all recipients in an
envelope in a serial fashion, so every time an SMTP server was slow to
respond it delayed mail delivery for everyone else.   Bulk_mailer split
things up so that no envelope contained more than N recipient addresses,
and addresses at the same mail domain ended up in the same envelope.
These days I suspect/hope that MTAs are smarter, and that nobody uses
sendmail anymore, or at least that sendmail bears no resemblance to what
it used to.

Anyway the list expander is pretty much an ordinary list expander except
that the recipient list comes from a database query, or a different
database query than normal.

The real trick might be arranging for every message to be classified so
that something can tell which Last Call the message pertains to and
which topic to assign to it.

I've never tried using it, but mailman does seem to have some support
for letting subscribers opt-in or opt-out to specific "topics".

Alternatively, the mechanism could be implemented outside of mailman by
doing the processing in the list expansion software and having the
lastcall list use a different list expander.   The list expander would
do a database lookup to see which recipients had opted-in to a
particular last-call action, and only forward the message to those
individuals.

(or have a separate lastcall-optin list with its own expander)

Anyway I'm pretty sure this would be easy to write, and suspect some
people would want to use it.   But there's no point in writing it if
there's no chance IETF would use it.

Keith

What I'd like to see is a way to easily and selectively opt-in to
particular last call discussions with a single button press.

For example:  Once a week the list sends out an HTML message with all
currently open Last Calls.   For each of these Last Call actions, there
is a button in the message that can be used to subscribe or unsubscribe
to the specific discussion associated with that last call.    That
button launches a web page which has the side-effect of changing the
user's subscription.    Perhaps there should also be a link to the tools
page for that action, and to archives of discussion of that action.

Also for any Last Call discussion message sent, there's a link in that
message to allow unsubscribing from the topic (as opposed to the whole
list).

Mailman already supports a very similar feature so it might just be a
matter of adding some UI bits.

Probably willing to contribute code as long as I'm not swamped with
paying work.

If we can use Mailman's 'topics' feature for this, it would be good. We'=
d
still need to write glue code between the datatracker and Mailman to add
and retire such topics, but that seems like a smaller task than writing t=

entire functionality from scratch.

The proposed feature seems worthwhile to me.

Tools Team Report -- 23 September 2019

1. Datatracker Projects
   - The plan was recently updated:
-- Need to put Trac and other programs that need Python 2 into
containers in order to deploy the Python 3 version of the
        Datatracker.
   - A contract for Meeting Application Improvements was awarded to
     IOLA. Work will begin shortly.
   - A contract for IRSG balloting was awarded to AKAYLA. Work began
in June 2019, and it is expected to be finished before IETF 106.
   - A contract for the Datatracker Review Tool was awarded to DashCare
in August 2019, and it is expected to be finished before the end
     of this year.

2. Community & Other Projects
   - The IETF web site now does a better job with static plaintext or
PDF pages, such as appeals, appeal responses, and implementation
reports. We moved the IESG Statements out of the blog section of
     the web site for example.
     -- See https://www.ietf.org/standards/process/appeals/.

3. RFC Services Projects
   - The RFC Production Center is now using the new format tools.
-- However, xmlrfcdiff is consuming a huge amount of memory, so the
RFC Production Center is using other tools until this can be
        resolved.
   - Support for the v3 schema was enabled for I-D submission last July.
   - The IESG needs to make a policy decision about when I-Ds using the
v3 schema format can be submitted to the IESG for publication on
     the IETF stream.
   - The Tools Team has a Statement of Work for the security of the
tools used by the RFC Production Center. Expect to release an RFP
in the next few weeks for this review.

4. Server Infrastructure
   - The custom DMARC-handling software was deployed for all mail lists
in June 2018, but there is a desire to move away from the custom
software to ARC. The released ARC software cannot be configured to
handle just a few of our mail lists, but this feature is available
in the yet-to-be-released version. Alexey and Henrik continue to
try to get a response from the ARC developers about a release date,
but so far we are only getting silence. This has not changed in
many months; maybe we will be using our custom code forever.

5. YANG Catalog
   - A sandbox of the YANGcatalog.org is running in a container. We
expect deployment of the containerized version soon.

6. SustainIETF.org
   - This domain name has been transferred from ISOC to the IETF Trust.
   - It is now being redirected to ietf.org.
