Hello,

Alexey asked for a review of draft-ietf-netmod-dsdl-map-05 [1]. One
of the comments is that the whole NETCONF-data space is badly
broken. As some of you have expertise in schema languages, could you
take a look at YANG and NETCONF and comment on that?

This is the kind of question where it is handy to tap on the IETF
experience of the team members. What does the team think about going
down that road? Do you have an advice on how to frame the review?

For some background information on NETCONF, see RFC 3535 and
draft-presuhn-rcdml-03 [2].

Regards,
-sm

Thanks, I'll follow your suggestion.

The Apps ADs issues list will be interesting to work on as it can
help to reduce the AD workload while providing authors with a better
view on how to reduce nits before their draft is reviewed by the team.

Henry S. Thompson from the W3C Technical Architecture Group will be
joining the team and bring in more XML expertise. We also have
Murray S. Kucherawy, MARF WG Chair, as a new team member.

Best regards,
-sm

Having a list of topics that the Apps ADs are especially interested would be
excellent. I suggest adding whatever the current set is, to each review query,
so the reviewers do not have to recover this, or other, postings to the list
citing such items. (I'm not suggesting tailoring the list to each review
request, but making it a standard list, leaving it to the reviewer to decide
what applies to the particular review.)

You did. I apologize for missing your message. It is a case of an

I thought I had replied... Given current workload, I fear I'll need to =

That should be RFC 5321. I asked about the MUA off-list.

The MTA is Postfix and it supports sub-addressing.

The "%" is also a SQL wildcard.

There is a view that matching 99.99% of email addresses in use is good enough.

I see this all the time when any sort of web interface, or
interface to a database supporting we interfaces, are concerned.
Basically, "+" is taken as an escape for " ", and either:

	* The local part string john+ietf@jck.com turns into
"john ietf@jck.com", but the quotes are absent, so it it
treated as either :john <ietf@jck.com>" or as a syntax
	error.

	* The string "john+ietf" is matched against "john ietf",
which got into the database via a web interface, and
	that match of course fails.

	* The string "john ietf" is matched against "john+ietf"
in the database and that match of course fails.

	* some idiot writes an application that "knows" that no
special character can appear in an email local-path
address except possibly "." or "-" or applies the LDH
domain rules to the entire address, yielding the same
	result.

john

Hi Eric,

I've seen similar issues in the past related to "local-part"
rewriting/handling in conjunction with database entries "searches".
To be more exact, an MTA was consulting an Oracle DB for each local-part,
and the presence of pefectly legal atext character was generating a DB
search error, which turned into an "unknown" MTA error. The offending
character in that case was "%" in an old style poor-man-routing case.

We need more info on the enviroment from Dr. Lee, I'm afraid.

"messaging" hat on: it is really quite strange to come across such an
issue, and just "now":

Hi Xiaodong,

Thank you for participating.

I apologize for the email issue. I'll send you an alternate email
address off-list.

It's the first time I come across a report of such an issue;
excluding email address fields in web forms. As there are two
specific working groups (EAI and YAM) in the Apps Area, I would not
label this as a general APPS issue.

If there are any issues sending me an email, please post a message to
this mailing list.

Regards,

Hello,

Eric Burger is an IAOC member. He will not asked to perform any
review until further notice due to workload. I have not updated the
Apps-area webpage yet as I don't have access to it.

I have not received any reply from the following members:

  Harald Alvestrand
  Cyrus Daboo
  Reinhold Kainhofer
  Yves Lafon
  Xiaodong Lee
  Barry Leiba
  Chris Newman
  Thomas Roessler

The Applications Area Review (new) Team needs all the experience and
expertise it can get. Please contact me to confirm your participation.

Alexey mentioned that he is interested in comments about:

  ABNF
  Date/time
  Error handling
  Extensibility
  Internationalization
  Use of XML/XML schema
  Use of URIs, etc.

This is not the complete list of issues to look out for. Alexey and
Peter will provide a list of typical Apps Area issues so that we have
a better idea of what to look for.

The main objective of the team is to assist the Apps Area
Directors. Reviews will be per-Apps AD request. The team will also
accept requests from authors to review their drafts. That will
generally be documents in IETF Last Call.

Some of you offered to help beyond what was asked for. I really
appreciate that and I will take up your offer.

Best regards,
-sm

Dear Applications Area Review Team,

There are currently 33 members listed as part of the Applications
Area Review Team. We have the two Application Area Directors, one
IAB member and an outgoing Application Area Directors. I suggest
using the following guidelines:

  1. IESG members are placed on leave. As the team is there to
assist the two Application Area Directors, that excludes the them
from performing reviews.

  2. Outgoing IESG members are placed on leave until the next two
IETF meetings as they need a vacation.

  3. IAB and IAOC members are placed on leave if they have a heavy
IETF workload.

Most of you are also Working Group Chairs and/or RFC authors and you
are quite busy. I would like to thank you for volunteering for the
Applications Area Review Team. The team relies on your participation
to get the work done.

I sent an email to every Applications Area Review Team member. If
you have not received the email, please contact me at
sm+ietf@elandsys.com. The list of members for the Applications Area
Review (new) Team will be drawn from those people who have explicitly
agreed to participate. I encourage everyone to do so as the team
needs your expertise.

I received 12 replies up to now. A team member pointed out that we
could adopt a criteria to ensure a distributed and thus neutral
review of I-Ds. If you have any idea on how it should be done, I am
open to advice.

There may be two types of requests for reviews. The first type might
be for an I-D that is scheduled for the next IESG telechat while the
second type might be a request from the author, for example. For the
first type, the request might be received on the Thursday preceding
the IESG telechat. As far as possible, please submit your review
before the following Tuesday evening. The deadline for the second
type is one week. If you need more time, please contact me as soon
as possible.

There may be requests for reviews that require more than one area of
expertise. The review can be split into two or more parts if the
reviewer requests it. At times, a reviewer may wish to collaborate
informally with another member of the team to perform a review. If
you would like to discuss about a review with the team, feel free to
use the apps-review mailing list.

A template for the review is available at
http://www.apps.ietf.org/content/apps-review-template All reviews
should be sent to apps-discuss, the author, WG Chair and document
shepherd. You can search for that information at
https://datatracker.ietf.org/idtracker/ The subject of the email when
submitting the review should be "apps-team review of draft-name".

The reviewer with the required expertise is chosen in alphabetical
order sorted by last name from the list available at
http://www.apps.ietf.org/content/applications-area-review-team The
next reviewer in line is chosen if the need arises, i.e. neutral
reviews. If I did not identify the desired expertise for the
request, please point it out. It is appropriate to do so on the
apps-review mailing list.

Some of you might be on vacation or changing jobs. Please notify me
in advance so that I can assign the review to another member of the
team. Presently, it is not possible for me to estimate the number of
reviews we may have to do. I hope to be able to come up with an
answer within a few months. Meanwhile, we could aim to keep that to
not more than one review a month. If that threshold is reached, I
will need your help to add more members to the team.

Scott Lawrence will not be assigned any review until the next IETF
meeting. Lisa Dusseault will not be asked to perform any review
until the IETF meeting this year. As John Klensin is on the IAB, I
won't ask him to perform any review until further notice.

Alexey Melnikov and Peter Saint-Andre are the current Application
Area Directors. You can contact them if there are any issues with
the work of the Applications Area Review Team or with the undersigned.

If you have any comments about the above, please post them to the
mailing list or email me. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards,
S. Moonesamy

Dear Applications Area Review Team,

Due to parsimonious bandwidth, I will keep this short. As you are
aware, the Applications Area Review Team provides semi-formal reviews
of Internet-Drafts as a way to improve the quality of IETF
specifications. Peter Saint-Andre devised a template for reviews and
some procedures during his tenure as Apps Review Team Leader. I
won't suggest any change to that.

I will send each of you an email next week to verify whether the area
of expertise listed on the Applications Area Review Team is correct.

Currently, a request for review is posted to the mailing list and
people volunteer. I propose to change that, if the team agrees, to
spread the workload. The reviewer with the required expertise is
chosen in alphabetical order. If the team member is busy or on
vacation, the next person in line will be asked to perform the
review. Please feel free to decline if I did not choose the correct
expertise required for the review.

Regards,
S. Moonesamy

Peter and I are looking for a new Apps Area Review Team Leader. The main
task of the Team Leader is to find suitable reviewers from the
apps-review team and to make sure that reviews are done in a timely manner.

If you are interested, please reply directly to Peter and myself.

Alexey, as Apps ADs.
