  Could anyone provide some sites on video traffic generator?
  I want to use that as the source of a packet scheduler measurement.

  Another question is that if I want to generate an exponential 
  distributed data flow, how to send two packets with an interval 
  time less than one second?

All that that algorithm does is synthesize approximate fractional Gaussian
noise (I toned down the title a bit for the CCR version).  If Chong is
interested in any other facets of video traffic, such as the MPEG structure,
then it wouldn't be appropriate.

There is a practical and simple VBR video model based on DAR(p) process
suitable for intra-frame coding video sources (such as JPEG and H.324, but
no MPEG) that you may be interested. You may check out the following paper I
wrote a while ago:

"Modeling and Simulation of Broadband Satellite Networks: Part II -- Traffic
Modeling"
IEEE Comm. Mag., July 1999.

Folks-

Will and Matt asked me to drop a quick note to everyone briefly
describing what I have been working on with regards to the bulk
transfer capacity metric.  I wasn't at the last meeting, but from
the notes it looks like Matt and Will informed folks that I have
been writing a BTC tool called 'cap'.  The tool is a little
different from Matt Mathis' cool treno tool that has been talked
about in this group for some time.  The key difference is that cap
has both a sending and receiving tool, whereby treno depends on ICMP
packets for the "ACK stream".  Both approaches have their good and
bad points.  Recently I have started running some preliminary tests
across the NIMI mesh of cap, treno and stock BSD TCP.  The plan is
to have some findings about the performance of both cap and treno in
comparison to a real TCP implementation to present at the Pittsburgh
meeting.  The hope is that this will shed some light on whether or
not we can come up with a good tool to measure BTC.  In addition,
this exercise may shed some light on some aspect of the BTC
framework document that needs work.  I look forward to discussing
this with folks at the IETF meeting.  Any input/comments would
certainly be appreciated.

Hi Soo--

Unfortunately the source code to pathchar has not yet been released to
the public at large.  However, there are at least two open-source
alternatives, based on the algorithms used in pathchar, as described by
a talk that Van Jacobson gave at MSRI in 1997.

pchar is a version that I did while at Sandia National Laboratories.  It
runs on a variety of UNIX systems, and runs several different analysis
algorithms over both IPv4 and IPv6.  pchar is available from:

clink ("characterize links") is another implementation by Allen B. 
Downey of Colby College.  His version runs on Linux, and it has some 
options for more accurate timestamping of packets within the Linux 
kernel.  clink is available from:

Both the pchar and clink Web pages have some links to other related 
information about pathchar.

(Why are there two versions?  We started independently and neither of us
quite realized what the other was doing until we were mostly done.)

The available bandwidth along a path between two Internet hosts is 
equal to the bandwidth at the bottleneck.  In other words, in the 
context of pathchar, they're the same thing.

Thanks for the note to the list. From Matt's and my perspective,
we're especially pleased to see empirical validation of a potential
metric. Assuming your tests work out well, we expect to get an I-D
defining 'cap' as a BTC metric. There is substantial need for a
vendor-neutral consistent metric for bulk transport, and your work
can break the logjam.

packet loss) that can affect the performance seen by the users as
well as the operators. Currently, the focus has been on specifying
base metrics such as delay, loss and connectivity under the
framework described in [frame-work]. It would be useful to capture
specific Internet behaviors under the umbrella of IPPM framework,
specifying new concepts while reusing existing guidelines as much as
possible. This draft proposes the use of 'derived metrics' to
accomplish this, specifically providing means for capturing the loss
pattern on the Internet.

The Internet exhibits certain specific types of behavior (e.g., bursty
packet loss) that can affect the performance seen by the users as
well as the operators. Currently, the focus has been on specifying
base metrics such as delay, loss and connectivity under the
framework described in [frame-work]. It would be useful to capture
specific Internet behaviors under the umbrella of IPPM framework,
specifying new concepts while reusing existing guidelines as much as
possible. This draft proposes the use of 'derived metrics' to
accomplish this, specifically providing means for capturing the loss
pattern on the Internet.
