I went to unsubscribe from a list.
Actually, I just set the mail delivery option to no, since I might read it
via IMAP. I looked for my password in my "welcome to list" folder,
and found it.

Surprisingly, my password was the name of the ML.
I looked a few others, and it was also the case.

I usually don't pick a password when subscribing, because mailman will
generate a good one for me. In this case, it doesn't seem to.

These are for two lists that I subscribed to in April 2016.
A list that I subscribe to in July 2016 seems to have a random password.
So maybe something was broken and got fixed...

I've got a few of these unsolicited over the last few months; should I =

You should not be concerned. Somebody has tried to reset your password, but w=
ith the enforced email roundtrip it ends with you receiving (and discarding)=
 the email.

I was searching for BCP 198 in the tracker.

Searching for 198 produces the kitchen sink.
Searching for "BCP 198", or "Best Current Practice 198" produces nothing.
Searching for "BCP198" (no space) works, but that seems very restrictive.

Did we ever consider adding the various RFC statuses to the "Additional search criteria"?

Regards
   Brian

My XML has grown some UTF-8 space characters, likely because of copy
and paste from etherpad. I get:
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xa0' in
position 148: ordinal not in range(128)

I was annoyed because it doesn't tell me the line number. After staring at
the backtrace a bit, I see:

  File "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/xml2rfc/log.py", line 38, in
  warn
      write_err.write('WARNING: ' + ' '.join(args))

and I realize that actually I think that the error is occuring while
attempting to format the error message. This is with xml2rfc 2.5.1.

(I haven't found my errant 0xa0 yet)

It would be useful to have the Shepherd's report sent to draft authors, WG
Chairs, possibly WG, and the responsible ADs when it is saved. Currently
I don't believe this happens.

Has this been discussed in the past?

Thanks,
Alia

With my AD hat on, I agree that would be useful.

Ugh. Noted. There are probably a number of places that can't deal with
non-ascii under Python2.7. All those should be fixed in the vocabulary
v3 / unicode rewrite. Till then a workaround could be to run xml2rfc
with python3.x; that should at least avoid barfing on non-ascii errors
and warnings.

Me too, other than the "send to WG" bit -- from what I've seen, WGs
get tired of "administrivia" type emails quite quickly -- I'd think
sent it to the authors, chairs, and AD -- the chairs can decide to
forward to the WG if they decide.
Many WG participants want to focus on the actual "work", and feel that
there is lots of annoying process which they'd rather not have to be
involved in...

I don't think the execution is relevant when it was obviously a bad
idea in the first place.
This is like putting rabid weasels in your pants, and later expressing
regret at having chosen those particular rabid weasels and that pair
of pants.
